Thoughts 💭

When you live in a place, especially in another country, you absorb its essence. It becomes a part of you—stored in your gut, woven into your very being. The culture, the ways of life, the daily experiences—all of it shapes you.

The duration of your stay matters, but what truly leaves an imprint is the intensity with which you embrace it! 😊💥💥💥💖

And now, I’m ready to share it!

Living in another country, you carry with you the culture of your homeland, the essence of where you’ve been. Yet, the new land speaks a different language, offers new relationships, and presents a fresh canvas. In my case, speaking American English in the USA, I found my thoughts and feelings transforming—everything felt new.

In this new nation, you relate to others not just through language, but through the cultural nuances you learn there. It’s not about replacing your past; it’s about adding to it, creating a new layer of cultural experiences. Speaking a new language, you feel reborn, lighter—a new self emerges. 💭

This metamorphosis, this rebirth, is something only those who’ve lived abroad can truly grasp.

In the USA, where I spent the majority of my life after leaving Italy at 20, I turned 47 last May 7th, in 2022. There, I built a significant part of my identity.

My time in Germany, though brief—about a year and a half—allowed me to immerse in a new cultural perspective. My life there was enriched by friends from diverse backgrounds, nestled in the German hills at a meditation center. Even as I ventured out for groceries or worked in a bakery, English remained the primary language.

These experiences across different languages and cultures are treasures I carry within me, shaping the person I am today.

🤗
